Day 2: The Family of God

Having children is one of the hardest and most rewarding things a person will ever do. Kids require a huge investment and an immense amount of personal sacrifice. As parents, we don’t have children because we want to be worshipped or praised. We have kids because we want to have a relationship with them where we can love and care for them.

In the same way, God made us because He wants to have a relationship with us. That is the purpose of human existence. God wants to love us, care for us, and provide for us forever. That means that after this life is over, He will take us to heaven to continue loving, caring, and providing for us. He wants us to spend eternity with Him in heaven! Jesus even said in John 14:1-2 that He would go prepare a place for us in His Father’s house.

To be able to go to heaven, we must receive salvation and repent of our sins (Acts 3:19). If we receive God, He gives us the right to become His children. That’s what salvation means! It’s simply the act of being born into the family of God.

God doesn’t want anyone to go to hell. He doesn’t want anyone to perish! His deepest desire is for everyone to receive salvation and be born into His family.

Today’s challenge is to:

Pray for the friends whose names you wrote down yesterday, the ones you want to keep out of the “hell line.” Pray specifically that God would soften their hearts, making them aware of how much they need Him.
