To experience heaven’s peace you must surrender control

The ruling principle in heaven is peace, while the ruling principle on earth is control.

Every day we strive and effort toward gaining control over our relationships, our time, our jobs, and our bodies. That’s why, when Jesus was born, King Herod “put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men,” according to Matthew 2:16b.

If we want the peace of heaven to become the ruling principle in our lives, we have to surrender control of our lives.

Herod wanted to be the only, undisputed king. He wanted control, and he failed to achieve it. That’s because God’s will is going to be done no matter what. If we want the peace of heaven to become the ruling principle in our lives, we have to surrender control of our lives.

Now, you might be saying, “well, I don’t believe in God.” Well, that doesn’t remove your responsibility to submit and surrender control of your life to God. That’s like deciding you’re not going to pay taxes because you don’t believe in the government, or driving 90 mph because you don’t believe in the speed limit. In both cases, there will still be consequences for your actions, and it’s the same with God. If you don’t surrender control of your life to Him, you may never experience the peace of heaven.
