How to conquer bad thoughts
2 Corinthians 10:4-6 talks about the spiritual weapons that a Christian has access to, saying, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”
This Sunday, Pastor Miles gave an interesting definition of the word stronghold, saying, “Strongholds are beliefs that you are enslaved by… it’s like you’re in bondage, enslaved to this idea of who you are. This is where the battle is.”
When you hear a thought come into your head that says:
- “God doesn’t love you”
- “You’re not a child of God”
- “You’re gonna fail!”
- “You’re doomed and everybody’s against you”
You can be certain that it’s false. Don’t allow those bad thoughts to become a stronghold in your mind! Rather, be transformed by the renewing of your mind—and adopt the mind of Christ.
Examine your own life. Is there a stronghold of negative thoughts in your mind? If so, ask God to help you to pull down that stronghold, and to replace those thoughts with good ones.
