Grandma Gigi: Tell the kids where they came from
On Mother’s Day 2016 (Sunday, May 8th), Pastor Miles sat down with seven mothers in his life to honor them and encourage other mother’s for all their hard work.
One of the women was Margaret McPherson, Pastor Miles’ mother, who is affectionately referred to as Gigi within the family. Her mother, who was white, fell in love with and married a black man from Jamaica, and her family rejected the union.
Because of this, Grandma Gigi grew up not knowing her mom’s side of the family even though they only lived twenty minutes away.
“So I would encourage grandparents to try to include your family (and) your family’s stories to your children and your grandchildren and make them feel like they belong to a bigger group,” she said.
Proverbs 16:24 says “Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.”
Pastor Miles added, “there’s a story to your family, and sometimes it’s ugly, but share what you can.”
