God’s joy is our strength
No matter how hard we try, none of our natural efforts can replace the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. No accomplishment can provide the satisfaction that God brings.
People often use financial savings as a remedy for the fear in their lives. They manipulate people in an attempt to achieve a greater sense of safety. Other people deal with their anger by being mean and controlling. Other people encounter sadness and self-medicate with drugs and alcohol, and then there are people who are just disgusted with everyone and everything in their life.
Unfortunately, there is no amount of fun to be had that can replace the joy of the Lord, and no amount of money that can replace the contentment that God brings.
It’s paramount that we do everything we can to ensure that the joy of the Lord is our strength, as Nehemiah 8:10 says. If not, we’re bound to start living a self-destructive life.
